There are simply some items that can't be packed ahead of time. I can't speak for anyone else but I do need to sleep with blankets and pillows. Towels and shower curtains are helpful too. So, all those and similar items had to be tackled today.
Luckily, Isaac had enough time to get up, have his breakfast and play for a bit before it was nap time. He was fast asleep by the time the movers arrived and I couldn't believe with all of the activity going on, the little guy took a 3 hour nap! It was a blessing too and an opportunity we all seized to tackle as much as possible.
Frazer was busy loading fragile items into our cars along with items that we would immediately need without having to sort through piles of boxes. I was busy, clearing out rooms and cleaning as each room was emptied along with packing up the last of the boxes of cleaning supplies, office cords and such.
After the movers had been underway for about an hour or so they asked us if we'd like to have a couple of more movers to help expedite the process. Who knew Two Men and a Truck would turn into Four Men and a Truck. It was a good decision though especially since we had to stop at the storage unit and load it on the truck as well.
Before we knew it the apartment was empty. As happy as I was to be moving to our new home, with more space and a yard for Isaac and a neighborhood full of kids, it was still bitter sweet. This was our first home as a family and where we brought Isaac home from the hospital. This was the place Frazer painted and prepared Isaac's first room while I was away. I'll never forget coming home from being away for a weekend and finding the spare room, emptied and painted in Winnie-the-Pooh nursery colors. The ceiling was a soft Thoughtful Spot blue and the walls were Silly Old Bear green. Are those not the best names for nursery paint colors?? Melts my heart just thinking about it. But, this is just a chapter closing and a fantastic new one beginning!
After a relatively short stop to empty the storage unit, the movers were back on the road and had arrived at our final destination. This truly is the best part of moving. After all the hard work of packing and loading, and even knowing there is more work ahead with the unpacking and putting everything away its the arrival at the final destination that is the icing on the cake!
The funny part was directing the movers on where to put things. They thought they knew where things would go given where they were in the apartment. Luckily I'm good at directing. :) The unload process was much quicker than the loading but once the movers left it was fairly close to a 10 hour process from start to finish. It was a long day but oh so worth it.
Now the fun begins, seriously. The unpacking process can be a challenge but its all about creating a new home. I have lots to keep me busy for the next several, several weeks.
