1 Year Check up

Isaac had a great check up today.  He weighed in at 20 lbs and 10 ounces putting him in the 25th percentile for weight but the pediatrician stated he's right where he needs to be given the increase in his activity level.  He's also now 31" in in length/height putting him in the 85th percentile.  His head circumference was 18.75" (75th percentile). With the one year mark comes more changes.

Isaac get's to officially transition from formula to milk.  Since the formula contains essential vitamins we'll have to supplement the milk with Flintstones chewable vitamins by smashing half a tablet to put in his breakfast.  We're super excited to be finished with the formula stage!  I hope the transition to milk is smooth.  Regardless, Isaac now needs to have 16 oz of milk and 16 oz of water daily.  While he can have juice at this stage I'm really not a fan of it and the pediatrician agreed.  I still struggle to drink enough water everyday so I want to make sure Isaac starts off right but liking water before getting addicted to all the sugary drinks.

While we were in the office Isaac was crawling around on the floor and then he started pushing the stool around int he office.  The doctor stated Isaac is walking, it's basically just a matter of confidence at this point before he lets go and ventures off on his own.  Isaac did take his first steps on his birthday which was awesome!  He took 2 steps then plopped and started crawling.

The pediatrician also recommending adding an application of sunblock to our morning routine to make sure he's protected before we head out in the sunshine and to get him use to the application.  This is probably a good idea since Isaac is less than happy when it's time for sunscreen.  We'll continue to have some summer fun and while he's in the pool we just need to be sure that he doesn't go under water.

Isaac is sleeping great since the move and I've heard from some moms that the one year mark is time to reduce the nap schedule to one per day.  The doctor stated to keep him at 2 naps as long as he's sleeping.  He's also still sleeping 10+ hours per night which is fabulous!

It was also recommending to start using sing language for a few basic signs such as milk, more, water/drink, book, and done.  Teaching him the signs should help reduce any frustration with communication.  So, we'll give this a try too.

It was a great chek-up with the exception of the shots.  The nurse was very sweet and quick, which was a great thing although Isaac still didn't have much appreciation for the pain.  Poor thing.  It breaks my heart and I can't help but tear up to hear him cry like that!

At least it was a clean bill of health.....next check up in 3 months.
