Organizer's Anonymous

One of the difficulties of moving, although exciting, is organizing and trying to find a place for everything.  I know there are many people that do not like this part and don't get me wrong, it can be a complete pain both physically and figuratively but I do have to admit that I enjoy organizing.  Life is much simpler when everything has a place and things can be found when they're needed.

There's a kitchen in there somewhere....
Every room in the house started off as a disaster.  Isaac had lots of fun playing with the paper and of course helping to pull items out of the box.  Finally he was able to pull things out instead of having to put them in.  There is always a method to the madness when I pack to make things easier on the unpacking side but no how much I prepare there is always the matter of where to put certain items, where do things fit and especially in the kitchen it resulted to adjusting kitchen shelves which sounds easy except when dealing with stubborn shelf brackets that don't want to come out.  Let's just say those were quickly replaced!  When it started to get overwhelming or I was loosing my motivation I stepped away and moved to other rooms.

Our bathroom was another problem area.  Despite already having under the cabinet organizers and different organizers for drawers the height of our new cabinets and size of our drawers were different.  Of course they were!  It would have been way too easy if everything fit smooth and simple. :)    The bathroom challenge was solved with a couple of trips to the dollar store for shoe box size containers for the linen closet and a couple of trips to Lowe's and Home Depot to find organizers that go on the inside of the cabinet doors.  Everything would soon have a new designated space and everything will be tidy......

I used a shoe organizer that fit over the door for all of our travel size items.  It's amazing how many of these things get accumulated when kept in different locations.  Now everything is easy to see and easy to get for trips.  And, this saved a bunch of space out of the linen closet.

Of course the room of the house that took priority was Isaac's room.  Us grown ups can handle chaos but I tried very hard to make sure his routine stayed in tact as much as possible.  I also wanted to make sure his room was safe to explore so he could verify all of his familiar items were present.  This was all well worth it too.  He loves crawling on the carpet and rolling around.  More importantly, from the first night in the house, he slept through the night!  I guess he appreciates the quietness of the suburbs and having a dark room.  :)

Well, there is certainly a lot more unpacking and organizing to do....
